During August of the year 1483, Rennyo Shonin who was the head-priest of the Hongwanji Temple of the Jōdo Shinshū sect of Buddhism, also recalled as the second founder of this sect of Buddhism, has visited the Ryokan “ Gosho”. After this historical event, the suffix “Boh”, which means “Temple lodge” was added to the Ryokan’s name.
